Aura Wade is an average American girl traveling through Thailand. One night her date (Michael Weatherly) stands her up. The only thing she can do now is babysit Madison (not her brother but in fact a twelve year old girl), Jeff and Jack, and their dog Mia. When her friend Stephanie Conn is trapped in a bus station, Aura has to travel out of the suburbs to the big city. While there and with a flat tire, Aura, Maddy, Jeff and Jack get caught in the middle of a mafia deal lead by Jack Nicholson because of a Cosmopolitan magazine. Meanwhile Stephanie is lost in the bus station and can't see, forcing her to make friends with a rat. How will they save Stephanie? Will they be able to get back to the 'burbs?
For those of you who have never seen "Adventures in Babysitting", I feel sorry for you. I grew up watching this movie and always dreamt of playing the lead role. Too bad I was never a high school senior with a hot date or looked over the age of twenty-five to pull the whole thing off.
To this day I still don't look old enough to pull it off. In fact, not a day goes by that someone doesn't ask me why I'm not in school.
"Actually I graduated from college about three years ago. Yes, I am older than I look."
Everyone tells me I'll be thankful when I'm older but I'm not buying it. I know the real reason why people have such thoughts. It's called "height discrimination."
Anyway, back to the reason of this blog. Stephanie and I are housesitting slash babysitting for ten days. Stephanie knows the family very well, she even spent Thanksgiving with them and everything. Their house is beautiful. It's right next to the school and complete with a swimming pool, grand piano, air-conditioning, maid, driver, and cute little Beagle.
The kids are great. Madison (haha) is in seventh grade and her room is set for a princess. She goes by Maddy for short. When I told her that my big brother's name is Madison she was surprised to hear it was a boy's name. (She was born in the 90's so she has not seen the movie "Splash") I told her that if I ever called my brother that he would probably beat me up. It's pretty funny though. Her entire room is filled with girly Madison memorablia, things that I buy for my brother as a joke.
Jeff is in fourth grade. He is a great big brother and helps tuck his little brother into bed every night. The youngest, Jack, is so sweet and is in first grade. He's a pretty popular young man, goes to birthday parties almost everyday and his playdates are all full.
Their dog, Mia, is cute but you have to be careful. If you leave any sort of food on any reachable surface she will eat it. Just the other day Stephanie made a sandwich and turned her back for literally half a second and poof...the sandwich was gone.
The maid, Pui, lives with them full-time and helps out a lot with the kids. She makes us food and does the laundry. Pretty amazing. The first day I was not used to such extravagance and insisted on making my own lunch. Stephanie is one of the most down to earth people I know but she has gotten used to the whole maid thing. I laugh at her whenever she leaves her clothes on the ground or her plate on the table. I knew I should have gotten a maid in Morocco!
The family has a full-time driver and this weekend he took us to downtown Bangkok. I might not leave.
Stephanie helps Jack with his homework everyday after school, knowing I'm not really a kid person unless I have to be.
The parents don't return for another week so I'm sure something adventurous is bound to pop up. I'm just hoping it doesn't have anything to do with climbing a skyscraper.

Guru is concerned by your experience of height discrimination. Is Japan on your itinerary?
